stuff he said

1987 (early in the year)
first actual sentence
he said it at wilma's house after waking up from a nap

Me night-night Nann's house; Papa up me.

He was saying that he took his nap at Nana's house and when he woke up Papa was there.

In Jan of 1988, he said to Wilma, when asked
How many animal crackers to you want?
Skip:  Any many.

On the summer of 1991 after listening to Ellen pitch an enormous fit,
Wilma asked him, what he thought of his sister and he replied:
"She was sickinating."

(Move to Ellen's blog:
On your mark, Set ready, Go)

he picked out those saddle shoes on his own. i was surprised that he chose them. obviously, he did not really care for getting dressed up. when the boys were younger and they needed to wear something nicer than a t-shirt, i would have them wear a polo shirt with a collar. they would scream like they were being strangled, even though i did not even button the top button.

better than store bought costumes

they were so creative. hunter liked to wear helmets. sometimes he would insist on wearing them to the grocery store. he looked like one of those kids who has to wear a helmet because of seizures. i don't think i have any pictures, but they made some pretty good weapons with cardboard tubes.

i guess when he was tired of standing on the table, he would just lounge on the table

Saturday, January 15, 2011

another one in the series of standing-on-the-table. i wonder if i took a picture every time he did it. i don't really think he did it that often.

i can almost hear the sound coming out of him. when he was little and before he did much talking, he had an aversion to the word *no.* if he heard that word he would start throwing things. one time, a friend of mine was sitting at the table with him. he had a bowl of food. i was in the kitchen and i asked her, "would you like some more toast." she replied, "no." the minute i heard the word, i knew that skip would fling his bowl of food. it didn't matter that the friend was not talking to him. he just heard the word and so he was going to have to throw something. i ran as fast as i could to try to catch his bowl, but i was too late. it went sailing across the room. my friend just looked at as and wondered *what just happened?* i explained that we had to be careful to not use the n-word. i don't think she really understood. but, then, i don't think anyone really understood. it would have been fun to know what he was thinking about.

we were on a trip to montana and he had too much energy, so we told him to hop out of the car and run out to the highway to burn off some energy. so he did. i guess we had about a two hour drive ahead of us.

i can't remember if i already posted this one or not...but it's pretty cute. he must have been hungry and looking for scraps??

Saturday, January 8, 2011

here he is, in his little hoodie, chugging up the hill. he would sit on the little cart and roll down the driveway into the street. it is surprising that he survived. glad we lived on a dead end street. less traffic.
